30 DAYS OF PRAYER | DAY 25 – Praying for Elders

Acts 6:4 “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

Whether it is a new church like Redemption or an established church, Elders are sometimes expected to play every role in the church from janitor to spiritual leader. As our launch date of January 12, 2014 approaches, it is important for us to remember the Elders that God has placed over us have been given the primary task of devoting themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word of God. We pray that their time in the Word and prayer life is not hindered. We pray that our Elders are protected from attacks of depression, distraction, and disruption.

Will you commit to pray for our Elders today? Pray that they will be faithful with the charge that has been given to them in Acts 6:4, as well as II Timothy 4:12:

  • Ÿ  Preach the Word
  • Ÿ  Be Ready in Season and Out of Season
  • Ÿ  Convince
  • Ÿ  Rebuke
  • Ÿ  Exhort

Pray that as Redemption Church moves forward that God would bring in new Elders to help shepherd the people that God brings to Redemption Church. Let us also be in prayer for the families of our Elders. Let us pray that the marriages of our Elders are strengthened and encouraged on a daily basis.

Finally, may we as the people of Redemption Church take to heart the command found in Hebrews 13:17, “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” May we continually submit to the Elders God has given us and lift them up constantly in prayer so that our Elders will find joy in the work God has called them to do.

This post was written by Josh Wright, a member of Redemption Church. Josh is married to Heidi Wright and has one child, Emilie. He enjoys watching movies/TV shows, playing games, and spending time with his family.
